  Microsoft Mouse Errors

I have a Microsoft mouse which gives me a GROWSTUB message each time I boot up...
The system won't remember my MS mouse settings...
Ad infinitum, ad nauseum...

Chances are, you are using an out-of-date version of the Intellipoint package -- the software that came with the mouse and provides a number extensions such as "snap to."
Until recently, this was the situation with Intellipoint: If you had the original Intellipoint 1.0 software, MS offered an upgrade to release 1.1 which, at the time, you could order direct from Microsoft for a nominal fee. Version 1.1 was still very flaky under Win95. MS then posted a "Point32 update" that took care of some of the issues, but you could still encounter serious problems, especially with 16-bit Windows applications. Personally, I got very tired of all the synergistic effects and pulled Intellipoint off my system. I lost a few nice mouse extensions but gained a lot in terms of stability.
Intellipoint 2.0 is now shipping with the new Microsoft "wheel mouse." This version seems to behave itself and should also work with the older two-button MS mouse. I don't know if Microsoft offers an update to Intellipoint 2.0, but it might be worth a phone call to find out.

MS Knowledge Base. Using the search phrase intellipoint AND "Windows 95" will give you more than 30 articles (on CompuServe, GO MSKB).
